Who must take this training?

Authorized employees shall be trained on hazardous energy control procedures and on the hazards related to performing activities required for cleaning, repairing, servicing, setting-up and adjusting prime movers, machinery and equipment. All other employees whose work operations may be in an area where energy control procedures may be utilized shall be instructed about the prohibition relating to attempts to restart or reenergize machines or equipment which are locked out or tagged out.

How often is retraining or recertification required?

  1. Before the employee is first assigned duties under this regulation
  2. Before there is a change in assigned duties
  3. Whenever there is a change in working conditions that presents a hazard for which an employee has not previously been trained
  4. Whenever the employer has reason to believe either that there are deviations or that there are inadequacies in the employee’s knowledge or use of these procedures
