Course Description

In order to ensure a safe work environment, every employee has a right to know about asbestos-containing materials that he or she might come into contact with in the workplace. This course presents an overview of asbestos and its associated hazards. The course will cover the health hazards of asbestos, responsibilities of employers and employees, and hazard controls outlined in California’s Cal/OSHA regulations.

Who must take this training?

Employers are responsible for training employees in the recognition and avoidance of unsafe conditions and any regulations applicable to their work environment. In particular, any employee who handles or uses harmful or toxic substances must be trained on safe handling and use of the materials.

How often is retraining or recertification required?

According to Title 8 CCR, Section 1529 and 5208 Asbestos, training shall be provided prior to or at the time of initial assignment and at least annually thereafter.

What are the governing regulations?

This online California/OSHA Asbestos Awareness course is intended to provide workers and their employers with an introduction to Asbestos, its dangers, and California’s Cal/OSHA Title 8 CCR, Section 1529, 5208, 8358 regulations. Additional training beyond the scope of this course is required for persons working with Asbestos that exceeds the Permissible Exposure Limit (PEL) and for those involved in Class I, II, III, and IV removal.

Intermediate/Advanced Users: Use the course as a flexible resource tool to find what you need, whenever you need it.
