An Introduction to Autodesk Moldflow

An Introduction to Autodesk Moldflow Insight introduces you to Autodesk Moldflow Insight while giving you an understanding of polymer flow and how it relates to part quality. Autodesk Moldflow Insight is a specialized simulation software used in the plastics industry to predict, analyze, and optimize the injection molding process. It helps engineers and designers understand how molten plastic flows into a mold and how the final part will behave, so they can prevent defects, reduce costs, and improve product quality.

About the Author

Jay Shoemaker worked at Moldflow then Autodesk for 36 years in several capacities. His main focus was on training, training material development and certification. Jay is the editor of the book Moldflow Design Guide, published by Hanser. From 2020 to 2023 Jay worked at iMFLUX running Moldflow supporting mold building and process technologies. Jay developed two methods for simulating the iMFLUX processing with Moldflow.

Since 1985, Jay has taught plastics classes at Western Michigan University. Classes include Plastics tooling, Introduction to plastics, Production plastics processes.

Today, Jay’s main focus is teaching the plastics classes and mentoring students in their 2 semester capstone projects. Since 1983, Jay has been a member of the Society of Plastics Engineers, (SPE). In 2011, Jay was awarded the SPE’s Mold Making and Mold Design Division’s Mold Designer of the year.
